Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi

This beautiful prayer has a special significance for me. It is a great prayer to use in contemplation or in guided (including self-guided) meditation. It is also, to my mind, a prayer that works well for a Reiki practitioner, who is after all a channel, or an instrument, for higher energies. And it speaks to me also in my role as counsellor.

The prayer is attributed to St. Francis of Assisi. The version below is, according to Wikipedia, the most popular version of this prayer:

Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.
Amen.

  2. What a wonderful prayer. Wish it could be used on a vast canvas like social fora, schools and other educational institutions.Thanks for drawing attention to it. This should be included in the curriculum of madrassas. Has any one guts to do it?
